On October 29, in Manchester, UK, Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Chi Dung visited Quantum Science, the UK's leading advanced technology company, a global pioneer in the development and production of quantum dot materials.
Quantum Science, with its core strength being INFIQ technology - an advanced quantum dot semiconductor material, specialized for infrared sensors, this technology enables the production of high-performance, highly sensitive image sensors at low cost, including lead-free INFIQ materials, aiming at sustainable development; is the foundation for breakthrough applications in many strategic industries.
Specifically, with the automotive industry (including sensors for advanced driver assistance systems); consumer electronics (3D sensors under the screen for mobile phones); augmented reality technology, automation and smart factories (monitoring systems); healthcare and security (biomedical imaging equipment, specialized surveillance cameras).
Quantum Science's business model is to research and develop, design and manufacture core QD materials to supply to major sensor, microchip and electronic device manufacturers in the world, helping them create new generation products.
The Deputy Prime Minister highly appreciated Quantum Science's research and development capacity and vision in the field of infrared quantum dots - a foundational technology for strategic industries such as semiconductors, AI, autonomous cars and smart factories, especially with lead-free INFIQ materials, in line with the global green technology trend.
The Deputy Prime Minister said that Vietnam is implementing 11 strategic technology groups, including quantum and new materials; Quantum Science's INFIQ technology is completely suitable and complementary to this orientation, and at the same time hopes that Quantum Science will study the possibility of cooperation with Vietnam to apply INFIQ materials to specific products and move towards cooperation in research and development of new generations of semiconductor materials.
He also said that Vietnam has a great need to develop a team of highly qualified experts in the field of advanced materials, so he suggested that Quantum Science coordinate with leading technical universities in Vietnam to develop training programs and scholarships; especially creating conditions for outstanding Vietnamese researchers, engineers and students to intern, study or work at Quantum Science's leading R&D departments in the UK.
Also on the morning of October 29 (local time), Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Chi Dung led a Government delegation to visit the Sci-Tech Daresbury Science Park (Manchester city).
Sci-Tech Daresbury was established in 2006, operating as a public-private joint venture between STFC, Halton District Council and Langtree Group, with the aim of building an integrated ecosystem of research - business - technology commercialization. This model is considered a typical model of technology park development based on public-private cooperation, contributing to promoting innovation, knowledge-based economic growth and forming a network of deep-tech businesses in the UK.

Hartree Centre is Europe's leading supercomputing and artificial intelligence center, established by STFC and IBM with a total investment of more than 200 million pounds. The center possesses high-performance computing (HPC), simulation and applied AI capabilities, serving research, industry and government; and is also the digital pillar of the Liverpool City Region and a partner in the UK's national AI network (UK AI Research Resource). The
Innovation Centre is a center for innovation and technology commercialization, providing flexible space for more than 150 technology businesses from startups to large corporations. The center operates Future Club, Gold Partners and mentorship programs, supports consulting, finance, training and product development, and acts as a "commercial gateway" to turn research results into practical applications.
Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Chi Dung said that Vietnam has a National Innovation Center (NIC) with a similar function to the Sci-Tech Daresbury Science and Technology Park. The Deputy Prime Minister suggested that the two sides strengthen cooperation in developing research infrastructure, technological innovation and training high-quality human resources, focusing on the fields of AI, supercomputers, big data, etc.
He also proposed promoting in-depth cooperation between Hartree Centre and NIC, in building data platforms and applied AI, transferring high-performance computing (HPC) technology and training digital experts, serving the digital transformation process and developing Vietnam's high-tech industry.
At the same time, connecting the Innovation Centre and Vietnamese startup support organizations to jointly implement incubation programs, accelerate startups and commercialize technology, support technology enterprises of the two countries to cooperate in research, testing and market expansion.
